Fall of Troy rehearsal jam. Amazing.

17 Aug

I’ve been on a bit of a Fall of Troy bender lately. This jam is amazing. If you want to know, the song is called The Vomiting Winter and was a b-side that you got for buying the deluxe edition of In The Unlikely Event.

I don’t have much to say besides the fact that this jam is awesome and that you should check out Fall of Troy. I’d start with Doppelgänger or Phantom On The Horizon. Those are my two favorite albums by them.

That is all.

Have a nice day.

Now I’m lost.

9 Aug

Earlier, I posted stuff that Omar Rodriguez Lopez and John Frusciante collaborated on. Here’s some Mars Volta for you guys, it’s fantastic.

I could post the regular mp3 of the songs, but I think you are all big enough to handle that. I wanted to show you how fun they are live.

The video is two songs, Son Et Lumierie and Intertiatic ESP, the first two tracks off of De-Loused In The Comatorium (TMV’s best album, in my opinion.)

The two songs are incredible. The open the album in an awesome way and flow really well.

But watch the video. Cedric (lead singer) and Omar (guitarist) have some sweet dance moves.

Even if they’re dancing like champs, they still manage to play extremely well.

Good job, Mars Volta.

I’m proud.

At every occasion, I’ll be ready for the funeral.

4 Aug

I went out and picked up two CDs the other day.

The Arcade Fire’s newest album Suburbs (which will probably be my next review) and Everything All The Time by Band of Horses.

The Funeral is the title for this fantastic song.

I didn’t listen to anything by Band of Horses before yesterday, but I’m glad I do now.

They have fantastic everything. Instrumentation, vocals, and they convey emotion well through songs.

The Funeral feels sad and makes you want to cry like a man.

LIKE A MAN, DAMN IT.

The album as a whole is a fantastic listen and flows very well.

It kind of reminds me of The Arcade Fire for two reasons:

1) It’s called The Funeral and Arcade Fire’s first album was Funeral.

2) Ben Bridgewell (BoH vocalist) sounds like Win Butler (AF vocalist) on this track. Well, to me anyway.

Enjoy the music and as always, leave a comment.

I do not talk, I am just a rapper.

28 Jul

Don’t know Childish Gambino? Don’t  know who Donald Glover is?

Well, he’s Troy from NBC’s Community and also whatever role he plays in DERRICK Comedy.

But why am I talking about Don Glover? This is a music blog right?

Well, he is also a rapper.

The song, Bitch, look at me now (two weeks), is from his mixtape, I Am Just A Rapper.

Now, I’m not a man who is big on rap, but Don Glover/Childish Gambino/whatever you wanna call him is simply a genius.

His lyrics are pretty fantastic. Plus, all of his music is for free on his website!

Plus, anyone who listens to Grizzly Bear may know the background music and laugh at the line

“I’m trying to make my street cred stack up, I mean I’m rapping over Grizzly Bear, what the fuck?”

Here’s Two Weeks by Grizzly Bear:

I think we can all agree that Don Glover’s rapping is amazing and that he has some pretty sweet rhymes. Check out his latest album Culdesac, it’s free as well. (PS, you can expect a review of Culdesac soon)

I felt like JAMDEK needed some new genres so here you go.

Enjoy.

Some of you may find this comical if you listened to the track or album. I know that I did.

Here, Air.

25 Jul

This track by John Frusciante was released a while ago and I’ve been meaning to get around to it. So here I am.

Download the track Here, Air for free at JohnFrusciante.com

Now, if you don’t know this, you probably should. Frusciante is one of my idols.

He has it all. Excellent vocals, excellent lyrics, and excellent instrumentation. He continues to wow me with every musical endeavor.

(see: I Feel Love and Sepulcros De Miel )

The song is the 13th song from his latest album, The Empyrean, and it was released separately for free.

Frusciante’s usual falsetto returns and continues to fill me with happiness, even if the song has a sad tone.

Frusciante’s use of two separate guitar tracks returns as well.

Not much to say about Here, Air besides the fact that it delivers.

GO LISTEN.

Since this post seems a bit short, I’ll add more! And this track dates back a while…

The song is My Smile Is A Rifle from Niandra LaDes and Usually Just A T-Shirt.

This album was released after Frusciante left the Chili Peppers and went to do solo work.

You notice something very different about Frusciante if you’re listening. No, the guitar playing is still fantastic. But his voice? His voice drastically changed, probably because of his heroin addiction at the time. The whole album is trippy and his voice is strange but the guitar work remains fantastic.

Frusciante on heroin

John Frusciante now, currently clean.

Quite a bit of a drastic change, and all for the better. While Niandra LaDes is an amazing album, I prefer Frusciante when he’s not on drugs. He just sounds better.

Anyway, there you go. Two more Frusciante songs for you to enjoy.

Comment?

Go for it.

I love me some Gorillaz.

26 Jun

While the Gorillaz didn’t exactly have a…uh…good recent release (coughplasticbeachcough), they still are a fantastic group. Here’s a video of a live performance from the Glastonbury festival.

What’s so different about this? Well, it’s nice seeing Damon Albarn sing instead of just seeing the animated Gorillaz members.

Also, Snoop Dogg decides to show up. While I’m not the biggest fan of Snoop, this is a sweet show and it seems like it was a fun one at that.

Snoop starts rapping lines from Drop It Like It’s Hot, which I’d rather him not do. He could’ve just sang the lyrics to Clint Eastwood BUT WHATEVS.

Anyway, it’s a neat video from a neat performance.

I want more Gorillaz. However, I want more music like  Demon Days and the self titled Gorillaz.

I’M LOOKING AT YOU, DAMON.

In case you didn’t know, that’s 2D and Damon.

EDIT: God damn you, YouTube. The video was taken down. Search for it, I’m sure you can find it. If not, just listen to Clint Eastwood by The Gorillaz, it’s just as good, I suppose.

I love The Pixies. You should too!

3 Jun

The first Pixies track I’ll show you is Hey off of Doolittle. If you haven’t learned this by now, I’m a bassist and I’m a sucker for a good bassline that you can really get into. This song has just that. The instrumental parts in this song are great and really easy to get into. Besides the bassline, my favorite part is when both Black Francis and Kim Deal are singing. It gives the song a lot of soul and is just awesome.

And here it is. Where Is My Mind? from Surfer Rosa. My favorite track from The Pixies. Why? It’s so damn awesome. (also, first post with boobs in the album art on JAMDEK! WOOO!)

It’s simple yet so sweet. My band covers this and I can say that it’s incredibly fun to listen to and play.

Everything about this song is awesome, from the “oohs” in the background to the short and sweet solo.

Want some history on the song? YOU GOT IT. Black Francis says he was inspired by scuba diving in the Carribean. He said “this very small fish trying to chase me. I don’t know why—I don’t know too much about fish behavior.” That shows best in the lines:

I was swimmin’ in the Caribbean
Animals were hiding behind the rocks
Except the little fish
But they told me, he swears
Tryin’ to talk to me, coy koi.

cool beans. Anyway, you might be saying to yourself “this sounds familiar. WHERE HAVE I HEARD THIS?!”

Well, maybe it’s from the (awesome) movie Fight Club.

’cause that’s where I heard it.

Potential spoilers if you haven’t seen it, doods/doodettes.

Graves of Honey.

1 Jun

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez, guitarist of The Mars Volta, and John Frusciante, guitarist of the Red Hot Chili Peppers are a match made in heaven. Hell, JFroosh and most people are a good match because JFroosh is awesome. Anyway, the Omar Rodriguez-Lopez Quartet, which consists of Omar and Frusciante on guitar and synths, and Juan Alderete on bass, and Marcel Rodriguez-Lopez on drums/percussion released their new album Sepulcros de Miel which, translated into english, means Graves of Honey. And I know what you’re thinking. “Man, that sounds awesome! Too bad I don’t have any money and I would NEVER pirate music. *sigh*.”

Well, my friends, you are in luck. The following link leads to the page where you can download the album FREE of charge. Go on, do it.

Sepulcros De Miel download link

The album is instrumental and I love a good instrumental album. One thing that I love about Omar and JFroosh is that they can make an album that flows well. Anyone that has listened to Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta or Curtains by Frusciante knows this. Haven’t listened to those? Go do it, dude. Now. Also, they’re both known for having awesome album art, in my opinion. Here’s the art for Sepulcros De Miel.

Enough info, let’s get to the music. Here’s the second track titled “Part II”.

So far this is my favorite track. After a cool synth intro on Part I, Part II starts off with Alderte laying down a sweet bassline  and a crazy synth and guitar parts from Froosh and Omar. I kinda wish I knew who was playing which part but whatever. Out of all the tracks, this stands out most to me and I love it the most.  Check the album out and let me know what you think by commenting. Or don’t. Whatevs.

Also forgot to mention, while the album is free, any money you pay will directly go to the “Keep Music in Schools” program which is pretty neat.

STAY IN SCHOOL, KIDS. (and keep music there, I guess.)

if you don’t, this man will hunt you down. (maybe)

Probably not.

Waving my dick in the wind.

30 May

Who doesn’t enjoy doing this? Here’s some more Ween for you fine people. This is also off of their album Mollusk. Nothing much to say about this song besides “it is fun to listen to.”

I was carried to Ohio in a swarm of bees.

16 May

The National’s fifth album, High Violet, was released recently, on May 10th. There are two key reasons I picked it up, as I haven’t listened to any of their stuff before. One: My friend Dave, who has a similar taste in music, suggested them and talks about them all the time. Two: It was only 8 bucks in Best Buy (woo!). So I went for it, and it turned out to be a worthy purchase. In fact, while I’m writing this, I’m listening/watching them play live on VEVO/YouTube/Whatever it is. And it’s fantastic.

Going to be completely honest here, I didn’t like them when I first listened to the first couple of tracks but I gave it a chance. Trust me, it grows on you. Matt Berninger’s voice is what grows on you the most. It’s deep and soothing and chill as fuck. This whole album is pretty chill and good music to lay back and relax to. I’ll post more from High Violet later, but for now I’ll talk about my second favorite track off of the album, Bloodbuzz Ohio.

It starts off with drums and seems faster than the rest of the tracks on the album and is joined soon by the rest of the band and Berninger’s deep vocals.

I don’t really have anything else to say. The National is chill, awesome, and an all around excellent band that will grown on you if you give them the chance to. Also, their lyrics are fantastic. I’d write more but I’m watching them be awesome right now. They just played Fake Empire, the only non High Violet song I’ve heard by them prior to this. And they were awesome.
